Growing up, my Daddy was the main chef in the house. Sunday mornings were usually filled with the smell of bacon frying in the pan, along with some biscuits and eggs, or waffles, or my favorite…pancakes!
We were no Bisquick household, so we learned how to make pancakes the old-fashioned way…
I promise you, you really can do this, and it is SO EASY!
Are you ready to learn how to make easy pancakes from scratch?
Here we go!
First, gather together you ingredients. You will need the following:
2 Cups flour – I use Gold Medal unbleached, unbromated bread flour.
1 Tablespoon Baking Powder – I use Rumford brand because it doesn’t contain any aluminum.
2 Tablespoons Sugar
1 tsp salt
2 Cups milk – we use whole milk, but you can use any kind you prefer.
1 large egg
2 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
Now that you have your ingredients together, it’s time to get you pan heated up. I have an electric stove, so I start mine on a 7 (medium high) and let the burners heat up the pan before I begin mixing ingredients. That way, when the batter is together, I am ready to start cooking! I also use a pan that spans 2 heating elements, so I can make 6 pancakes at a time!
Ready to get mixing?
Start by mixing all of your dry ingredients in a bowl. So that’s the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt!
Combine those all together, using a whisk or even a spoon! I told you this was pretty simple!
Next, combine your wet ingredients. That’s your milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
I put mine in a 2 Cup measuring cup, then wis them all together!
Now, here comes the hard part…
Add your wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until they are all combined.
Remember that pan you had preheating on the stove top? It’s time to put it to good use!
Pour some batter onto the pan! I use a ladle, and 6 pancakes fit on my pan at a time.
When the pancakes get a little bubbly, and the edges look a little dry, it’s time to flip them over!
Once you flip it over, it will only take another minute or so to cook through the other side!
Once your pancakes are cooked, it’s time to top them with your favorite toppings! We love butter (the real stuff), honey, and pure maple syrup in our house!
Put them together, and you are all set!
